Europe knew coffee supplements centuries before black coffee.
As early as in 1592, Prosper Alpinus wrote »De plantis Aegipti liber«, where he compared the flavor of black coffee with the noble flavor of chicory. Even earlier in history, people roasted various cereals, roots and fruits, and chicory played an important role in the pharmacology of ancient Egypt and is mentioned in texts over 6000 years old.
The 18th century was marked by chicory and Franck’s history goes hand in hand with first efforts related to industrial processing of its roots. Franck coffee was coffee for ordinary people who were unable to afford real black coffee. Its excellent flavor made it indispensable for a pleasant beginning of the day ahead.

Today, chicory is known as a cultivated plant, which originated from wild chicory that is a plant with beautiful little blue flowers, growing next to the roads and paths. It is similar to Endivia, which is used for salad. Ever larger quantities of chicory are used for industrial purposes, since it has become a popular coffee supplement and additive.
Coffee supplements are rich in energy and form an important part of breakfast or other meals. A drink prepared with milk has both positive organoleptic properties and high nutritional value. Franck coffee supplements have been known around the world for more than 170 years. They are rich in inulin and extracts with no preservatives and additives, and obtained through root processing. Roasted chicory has a positive effect on the regulation of sugar in blood and is particularly beneficial for diabetics and older people.
